  123. Select the area you want to change the color in by
  124.  pressing a letter 'A' thru 'P'. A colorbox of all
  125.  possible colors will appear. The current color of the
  126.  item you selected will have two white bars on either
  127.  side of an 'X'. You can now move those white bars
  128.  around with the arrow keys to select a new color. With
  129.  the white bars around the color scheme you want, press
  130.  ENTER. If you change your mind and don't want to change
  131.  the color after all, press ESC.

  154.  BackSpace/LEFT arrow  - move cursor left 1 byte
  155.  RIGHT arrow     - move cursor right 1 byte
  156.  PAGEUP          - move cursor to first line on page
  157.  PAGEDOWN        - move cursor to last line on page
  158.  HOME            - move cursor to beginning of line
  159.  END             - move cursor to end of line
  160.  TAB             - toggle cursor position between the
  161.         hexadecimal display and the ASCII display of the
  162.         file. The above editing commands will move the
  163.         cursor within the area the cursor is in.
  164.         You can edit the file making changes in both
  165.         areas at the same time, if so desired.

  167.  ENTER           - quit editing. If you made changes to
  168.         whole bytes you will be prompted to save the
  169.         changes or not. Press 'Y' to save the changes or
  170.         'N' to lose the changes. Only the portion of the
  171.         file that is in memory is actually saved. So
  172.         don't worry about waiting for a long save if you
  173.         are editing a large file. You are then returned
  174.         to the View mode.

  176.  ESC             - quit editing. If you made changes to
  177.         whole bytes you will be prompted to discard the
  178.         changes or not. Press 'Y' to discard the changes
  179.         and return to view mode, or 'N' to return to edit
  180.         mode.

  183.  press ESC to cancel the request and return to edit mode.

  193.  either a decimal number, hexadecimal number or view any
  194.  offsets in history by pressing 'H'. Preceed hexadecimal

  196.  entering a number you will be placed back in the ~View`
  197.  mode with no repositioning taking place. If you press
  198.  ESC while viewing history items, you will be placed back
  199.  in the input offset prompt. The BACKSPACE key can be
  200.  used to edit your entry. If you enter an offset that is
  201.  beyond the End-Of-File (or < 0) you will be prompted
  202.  again for a number.

  304.  marked postion, Alt+2 moves you to the second marked
  305.  position, etc etc.

  314.  Search the file for a byte or text sequence.
  315.  
  316.  You will be prompted for the type of search (B)yte,
  317.  (T)ext, or (H)istory.
  318.  
  319.  For a byte sequence, enter the bytes in hexadecimal
  320.  notation then press ENTER.  As with ~edit`ing, you must
  321.  enter a complete byte, for the search to work correctly,
  322.  although I don't check for that here.  You can use the
  323.  BACKSPACE key to go back and make corrections.  The
  324.  maximum length for a byte sequence is 9 bytes.
  325.  
  326.  For a text sequence, just type in the text to search
  327.  for, no quotes are needed, and press ENTER. The maximum
  328.  length for a text sequence is 25 characters. The search
  329.  is case insensitive.
  330.  
  331.  For a history item, use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to
  332.  scroll thru all items saved in history. When you've
  333.  found the item you want to search for, press ENTER.
  334.  Press ESC to go back to view mode.
  335.  
  336.  While XE is searching, you can press any key to
  337.  interrupt and stop the search.

  346.  This command will delete all entries from the marker
  347.  stack.

  350. SHELLOUT
  351.  
  352.    Shellout to DOS or another program
  353.  
  354.    Alt+D

  356.  This command will shell out to a DOS prompt or another
  357.  program.
  358.  
  359.  When this command is pressed, XE first looks for an
  360.  environment variable called XESHELL. If found, XE will
  361.  try to run the program name specified by that
  362.  environment variable.
  363.  
  364.  If XE does not find a value for XESHELL, it looks for
  365.  COMSPEC. COMSPEC is normally set to the command
  366.  processor COMMAND.COM. If neither environment
  367.  variable exists, you will receive an error message
  368.  stating so.

  370.  If COMMAND.COM is the program shelled to, typing EXIT
  371.  will return you to heXEdit. If XESHELL is used to run a
  372.  different program, exiting that program will return you
  373.  to heXEdit.

  380.  Available command line options are as follows :

  382.  1. /C  This option tells XE to use it's default color
  383.         set.
  384.  
  385.     /M  This option tells XE to use black and white
  386.         colors; for monochrome monitors.
  387.  
  388.  2. /? or /H  Either of these two options will display
  389.               a short message about the start-up syntax.
  390.  
  391.  3. /Lc[c[c]]
  392.  
  393.  The files and directories in the Loadfile box are sorted,
  394.  depending on the value of this option.

  424.    Environment Variable Options

  428.    All of the command line options can also be specified
  429.    thru an environment variable called 'XEOPT'. To set
  430.    the value of XEOPT, use the DOS SET command at a DOS
  431.    prompt before running XE. For example:

  433.            SET XEOPT=/LFEA/C

  435.    If command line options are used, they will override
  436.    environment variable options if they conflict with
  437.    each other.
